Privacy policy
Last updated: March 2026
Hello and welcome. This is my privacy policy — written in plain English because life is too short for impenetrable legal documents, and you deserve to know exactly what happens with your information when you visit this site.
Who I Am
I'm Layne Gray, the author behind Dispatches from A Broad — a blog from my perspective about life in Paris, specifically, and Europe, in general, told honestly. This site is operated at dispatchesfromabroad.com. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach me at info@dispatchesfromabroad.com.
What Information I Collect
When you subscribe to my newsletter: I collect your email address. That's it. I use it to send you new posts, occasional Paris dispatches, and nothing else. I will never sell your email address to anyone. Ever.
When you visit the site: Like most websites, this site uses cookies — small files stored on your device that help the site function and help me understand how people find and use it. Specifically:
- Shopify (the platform this site runs on) sets functional cookies to keep the site working properly
- Google Analytics collects anonymized data about site visits — things like which pages are popular, where visitors come from, and how long people stay. This data does not identify you personally.
When you contact me: If you email me directly, I'll have your email address and whatever you chose to share. I use this only to respond to you.
Third Party Services
This site uses the following third party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Shopify — site platform (shopify.com/legal/privacy)
- Google Analytics — site analytics (policies.google.com/privacy)
- Klaviyo — email newsletter management (klaviyo.com/legal/privacy-notice)
- Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest — social media platforms linked from this site
I may add additional apps or services over time. Any that collect or process your data will be added to this list.
Your Rights Under GDPR
If you are based in the European Union (or anywhere, frankly — these are just good rights to have), you have the right to:
- Know what personal data I hold about you
- Request a copy of your data
- Ask me to correct inaccurate data
- Ask me to delete your data
- Withdraw consent for email communications at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email me at info@dispatchesfromabroad.com and I will respond promptly.
To unsubscribe from my newsletter at any time, simply click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email I send you.
Children's Privacy
This site is intended for readers aged 13 and older. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided me with personal information, please contact me at info@dispatchesfromabroad.com and I will delete it promptly.
Data Security
I take reasonable steps to protect your information. That said, no method of internet transmission is 100% secure, and I cannot guarantee absolute security. What I can guarantee is that I treat your data with the same care I'd want someone to treat mine.
Changes to This Policy
If I make significant changes to this policy I'll note the updated date at the top of this page. I'm not in the business of surprising people.
